The sun shone on the first Leith Hawks Youth Rugby festival, with the excellent weather and energy provided by 295 primary 4s and 5s making for a hugely successful day.

125 kids took part in the morning session from Leith and Lorne primary schools, making up 12 teams. They played a total of 34 fixtures over 6 pitches, whilst in the afternoon 170 children from Craigentinny and Hermitage primary schools made up 15 teams and playing 49 fixtures over 7 different pitches. At both sessions the emphasis was on fun, with the kids putting into practice the skills learnt during the recent pilot rugby programme delivered by the club in all 4 schools.

A huge thank you to all that helped organise prior to the day and all the volunteers who took time off work to make it such a success. It was definitely a team effort from the Leith Rugby volunteers, in particular the LYRD team and Luke McKinney for his design work. A big thanks also to Scottish Rugby and Active Schools Edinburgh for their support, Tesco Leith for providing the lunches. All your efforts are hugely appreciated.
