The 2nd XV made their way down the A68 on Saturday to face Walkerburn, at one of the most beautiful places to play rugby in the country - perhaps anywhere, the Borderers Caberston Haugh ground nestling in the valley next to the Walker Burn (River Tweed) and surrounded by hillside.
As the game got underway, the Leithers could perhaps be accused of admiring the scenery, as despite first half dominance, the final pass went to ground too often, and the visitors were unable to trouble the scoreboard. Leith also unfortunately lost Adrien Seignoux to an early knee injury, with Tony Kestner getting more minutes than he may have expected at kick off.
It wasn't till the 2nd half that Dave Robertson was able to put fullback George Lees away for Leith's sole score of the afternoon, and an improving Walkerburn side ran out deserving winners on the day, despite some excellent performances from the 2s, and several with hands up for a 1st XV berth next time out. A strong tight 5 have been the core of the 2nd XV's efforts this season, and they were ably supported by the back row, and a backline with much promise, if little experience playing together.
Many thanks to our hosts for their hospitality post-game, and please be assured that DotD, Daniel Garrido Cordoba was bough another Tennent's on his return to Leith!
Roll on next week and the visit of Caledonian Thebans to Academy Park.
Try: George Lees
Man of the Match: Ewan Sutherland
