Leith suffer heavy home defeat

Leith were facing a bit of an injury crisis going into our clash with league leaders St Boswells. Up to 9 members of the squad, the majority playing in most of the in the opening 7 games, were unavailable with a few late call off included. Never the less the 21 who were selected were confident that they could notch up a result.

The opening exchanges were encouraging with Leith more than holding their own against a powerful St Boswells side. The scrum and line out were functioning well and when winger Steven Eadie stabbed a loose ball through he look was bound too score, however a bad bounce at the last minute meant the ball squirmed out of Stevie’s grasp and the chance was gone.

Boswells upped their intensity and Leith were unable to match the running power and strength the opposition had, with this tries were conceded. Leith were unable to get their hands on the ball and work through any phases, with this Boswells started to dominate and began to run away with the game. However when all looked lost, Kenny Dannfald was able to come up with a try for the hosts. A scrappy ball on the deck gave David Robertson the opportunity to kick the ball forward, however the ball came back off the Boswells centre and looped back towards the Leith line. Dannfald rose and was able to pluck the ball out the air at full stretch, dodge the oncoming defence and outsprint the cover defence from the Leith 22m to the opposite corner. The wide conversion was missed.

Leith hoped that this might be the spark to get them going in the game however it was not to be. For the rest of the half and the rest of the game Boswells ran away with it. Credit to the squad though who kept on going, chasing loose balls, making tackles and trying to get anything else out the game. Despite the score line there were some positives in the game that we can take away, there was also some game time for members of the squad playing there first game of rugby in awhile/ coming back from injury. There is also a lot that needs to be worked on and the squad is looking forward to getting to training this week to put some of the wrongs right.

Try – Kenny Dannfald
