Livingston 3 - 8 Leith

Leith travelled to Almond Park for the second time this season. Coming away with a victory in the Cup in August, the boys in blue were hoping to leave Livingston with two wins from two this season.

Leith had four matches planned for Saturday 29th of Feb and unfortunately three of the fixtures were cancelled due to the poor weather conditions. The 1st XV match was luckily unaffected.

The pitch was particularly boggy but that didn’t stop the festivities. Livingston opted to wear their pink alternate jerseys and Leith got proceedings underway.

Leith applied early pressure and it wasn’t long until Livingston infringed at the ruck and Ben Wilkinson, loving actually being able to play rugby for the first time in weeks, stepped up and slotted the ball through the posts and the visitors went ahead 3-0.

This was to be the the only score in the first half. Leith forwards were asserting their dominance but the Livingston pack were running hard and doing their team proud. The referee sent the Liv hooker to the bin early into the match after marching the team back 30 yards.

Livingston were getting the odd line break but the covering defence was Leith was too strong. Penalties were costing Livingston precious yards and Leith spent a lot of time in the Livingston 22. Ivan crashed over the line but was deemed to have been held up.

Half time score: Livingston 0 - 3 Leith.

Coach Kev made a few changes at half time and Leith were playing into the wind. Leith received the kick off and threw an interception almost immediately. Thankfully the tackle was made and Leith managed to clear their lines.

Livingston were tiring and Leith were beginning to find space out wide. It wasn’t before long that the ball was shipped to the Greek god on the wing that is Ross Marwick and he ran through the revolving door opposite him to score the games only try. Ben missed the conversion, he was too excited for beers after the match and got distracted. Livingston 0 - 8 Leith.

Livingston responded with a fantastic penalty strike from 45 yards out to get on the board. Livingston 3 - 8 Leith.

There would be no score throughout the rest of the game. Leith’s defence held fast and Livingston didn’t look like scoring until the final minutes where they fought their way deep into the Leith 22. Thankfully the referee blew for full time and Leith walked away with the victory.

Tough conditions made a difficult game for both sides but Leith the victor of the spoils. 3 out of 3 wins against Livingston for the season.

Leith welcome Dunbar to Academy Park next weekend as part of Leith Ladies Day.
