Leith seal East 3 League title

Leith won 10-3 at St Boswell's to secure the RBS East League 3 title, their first silverware in a decade.

The Leithers went into the game with promotion secured alongside Inverleith, and knowing that any result better than a 93-point defeat would see them go up as league champions. The commitment and determination exuded all season meant however, that anything other than a win would have spoiled the day, and it was a win the boys got with a Ryan Burgess interception try, and 5 points from the boot of Doug Watters sealing the win on a tense afternoon in the Borders.

Owing to the late-April date, and dry conditions, St Boswell's fielded a strong side as they chased the 3rd position (which could still see them promoted pending an SRU decision on Gala YM's replacement in East 2) and only some excellent cover tackling from wingers, Dave Robertson and Ryan Burgess prevented Leith going behind early. They eventually conceded a penalty in kickable distance, from which the Walkerboswell stand off made no mistake.

Leith dominated the rest of the first half, but blew a couple of scoring opportunities, before Ryan Burgess intercepted on halfway to go in under the posts with the last play of the second half.

Leading 7-3 at the break, Leith were put under pressure at the start of the second period as our hosts camped inside our 22. The team's excellent defence (best in RBS East leagues in 2012-13) again stood firm during an end-to-end half, before a couple of breaks from the blue and whites led to a Watters penalty with 10 minutes left which eventually sealed the 10-3 win.
