Leith travelled to Lismore for their first game in East Division 2, and in the autumn drizzle made a bright start, and some neat handling in the backs provided tries for full back, Kenny Dannfald and winger, Craig Smith, before hooker Grant Aitken finished off some good work by the tight forwards to dive over for Leith's third try not long before the break. 2 of the 3 tries were converted by Doug Watters, for a 19-0 half-time lead.
The second half was a very different affair, with all parties to the game electing to do things differently to the first half, not least the Lismore forwards upping their game, and the Leithers finding themselves on the back foot far too often.
Lismore scored two tries through their hooker and second row, before a penalty reduced the arrears to 15-19. Mark Phillips was then sin-binned for Leith, before a controversial score saw Lismore take the lead, with many observers believing Craig Smith was pushed off the ball in a race to the posts with the Lismore centre. C'est la vie. A conversion, further penalty, and another yellow card, this time to Grant Aitken, saw the game go to the hosts 25-19.
Best of luck to Lismore for the rest of the season.
