Leith see off RDVC in a tight encounter

Leith won Saturdays fixture in a very closely fought encounter by 17-14.

On what was a very warm day (perfect for the spectators, not so great for the players!) Dick Vet had a lively opening, catching Leith sleeping and scoring a converted try.

Leith 0-7 RDVC

Leith eventually woke up and gradually gained the ascendency, going close on a few ocassions with Meadows almost getting over the line before Gareth sliced through the Dick vet line, rounded the full back with ease and went in under the posts. Burgess converted. Prior to this a Dick Vet player was carded for illegally preventing a score (why no penalty try?)

The second half was an evenly contested affair with Burgess converting a penalty to put Leith in the Lead.

Leith 10 - 7 RDVC

Much has been said about the Leith team being young with a number of players being 18. This was addressed in the second half with the introduction of Tyler and Martin sending the average age rocketing. It was speculated if Tam Bennett had joined them Leith may have gone to youngest average age in the league to oldest.

Most of the action was in the RDVC half, but they were looking dangerous on the break, and a move from their own half ended with their stand off going in under the posts. Conversion was succesful.

Leith 10 - 14 RDVC

To their credit, the Leith team showed their resilience, and Craig Smith crossed the whitewash after good pressure play by Leith, again under the posts. The conversion was succesful and, after a frantic minute or two, the ref blew up for no side.

A good win for Leith in a step up from Walkerburn, but room for improvement all round, so let's see the numbers down at training.
