First loss in 8

Leith welcomed North Berwick to Academy Park for a top of the table clash. They were hoping to keep their winning streak going. The game did not start well for Leith with some loose passes allowing North Berwick to gain the upper hand. North Berwick attacked from their line out. They kept up the pressure on Leith’s try line. But good defence from Leith forced the error resulting in a knock on. The resulting scrum on their five metre line set up a good platform for an easy exit. Unfortunately the pass went astray resulting in Campey knocking the ball on over the try line allowing NB to touch down for a converted try. 0-7.

More individual mistakes allowed NB to continue pressing the Leith defence. Unfortunately they managed to break through and in for a second try. 0-12. Leith’s problem continued when they gave away a penalty in front of the posts. 0-15. Half time could not come quick enough for Leith. They continued to put some passages of play together and we’re finally rewarded with a penalty. Johnston was good with the kick. 3-15. Leith we’re finally able to control the ball better resulting in NB infringing offside resulting in another kickable penalty unfortunately Johnston was unable to convert. just before halftime Leith were given another penalty just outside NB 22. johnston was good with the kick. 6-15 half time.

The half time chat seemed to work as Leith came out looking like a different team. They started to dictate the set piece more resulting in them dominating NB scrum driving them backwards at a rate of knots. Leith had the upper hand resulting in Neil Paterson managing to touchdown but the ref said he was held up and brought it back fir the penalty advantage to Leith. Having the upper hand at the scrum. Captain Paterson decided against the easy three points and asked for a scrum. Leith drove NB back controlling the ball. When it seemed a certain try Drummond went to pick up the ball but missed it resulting in the ball coming out the scrum. But the NB scrum half knocked the ball on. From the resulting scrum Leith decided to go quick ball from the scrum allowing Johnston to change play and giving a pass to Bowman in for the try. Conversion was good from Johnston. 13-15.

Leith now continued to try and create space. Some strong play from the forwards allowed quick ball. After a good wrap round from Johnston created an over lap. Unfortunately his pass did not get to Bowman due to the strong wind and the opportunity was gone. NB came back in to the game playing in Leith’s 22. They were rewarded with a kickable penalty. Unfortunately the effort went wide. This was the final attempt final score 13-15.
